Dr. Ricardo Duarte
Biografia
Ricardo Duarte holds a Master’s degree in Molecular Genetics and a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Minho. His research bridges Microbiology, Genomics, and Bioinformatics, with a strong focus on exploring the biotechnological potential of microbials. Over the past years, he has been actively involved in genomic and metagenomic studies, aiming to characterize microbial communities from diverse environments, including food-related, clinical, and natural ecosystems.
Currently, his work includes the development of high-throughput pipelines for genome and transcriptome analysis, annotation of functional genomic elements, and application of bioinformatics and machine learning techniques to predict stress adaptation and metabolic potential in microbial genomes. He is also engaged in national and European projects focusing on microbial biodiversity, synthetic biology, and environmental sustainability.
Ricardo Duarte has extensive teaching experience in higher education, particularly in the fields of Bioinformatics, Genomics, and Molecular Biology. He has designed and taught theoretical and practical modules for undergraduate and postgraduate students, including Bioinformatics Applied to Genomic Data Analysis, Microbial Genomics and Metagenomics, Functional Annotation and Comparative Genomics, and
Grant Writing and Project Design. Additionally, he supervised several MSc and PhD students in microbiology and computational Biology.
